What our Editor had to say:

“We’ve paired up with our friends at Raucous Records for Vintage Rock’s latest subscription offer music bundle. It’s a brilliantly diverse selection of artists – there’s something irresistible for every rockin’ music fan here.

Included in the gift package is the eponymous debut from The Hicksville Bombers who rattle through 25 rockabilly cuts in just over an hour for the Lincoln trio’s breakthrough on the UK scene. There’s also a full-length 15-track album of similarly authentic rockabilly from The Slingshots. Influenced by the likes of Carl Perkins and Sleepy LaBeef, Feels So Right mixes the three-piece’s original material with some well-chosen covers.

The Big Heat certainly live up to their name on their 16-track long-player Boogiemen – this is hot stuff – 40s and 50s-style jump blues and R&B, with lashings of sassy brass. Plenty of bluesy guitar licks, too, including the stunning cut Sidetracked.

Elsewhere, Lisa George & The Pedalos’ Blue Eyed Rockabilly Boy EP traverses the upbeat rockabilly title track and jazzy rock-a-ballad Ain’t Love Addictive.

Fans of Stray Cats and Reverend Horton Heat will find much to enjoy on The Tri-Sonics’ Mystery Lady EP, including the sultry lead track and an urgent cover of Go Cat Go’s neo-rockabilly classic Please Mama Please as well as a live version of Little Richard’s raucous Rip It Up.

And for something a little bit different, how about Union Avenue radically reinventing The Undertones’ Teenage Kicks as a Johnny Cash-style ‘boom-chica-boom’ Sun Records-era rocker? They also pull off a similar trick on the EP with The Rolling Stones’ Sympathy For The Devil.

Finally, former BR5-49 mainstay Gary Bennett struck out on his own for solo EP, You Are Never Nice To Me, which boasts dazzling guitar work on its country rocker title track, while there’s more of an authentic hillbilly vibe on the lilting I Ain’t Gonna Do It Anymore. Equally impressive is his cover of Gram Parsons’ heartstring-tugging Hickory Wind and Lefty Frizzell’s evocative story song Long Black Veil.”
